I received a lot of books when I was pregnant and this one was the best one, by far. I was looking for a book to ease my worries, not add to them, and the authors struck the perfect tone.

My favorite parts were the tables on routine vs optional tests your doctor could request and the nutrition / vitamins needed in a pregnant woman's diet. Doctors can be so pressed for time and, in my case, they wanted to run every test in the book; but I wanted more of a balanced approach and this book gave me a better overview of them and answered some of my questions better than my doctor.

Chapter titles: First trimester; second trimester; third trimester; Is this normal?; Tests; Nutrition; Environment and your baby; Lifestyles (including exercise, travel, work); Spa treatments (including hair coloring, teeth whitening, hot tubs, etc); Parenthood prep; Breastfeeding; Home stretch; Labor day; Postpartum; Pregnancy 911; The complicated pregnancy; Infections; Advanced maternal... This book seems to cover it all. I read it through front-to-back and have continued to reference back to it throughout pregnancy. I love the anecdotes that give depth to the advice and I really like the way it is organized. On controversial topics, it presents all sides of the issue and does a good job of outlining the choice that you have to make as an expectant parent. And it's great at giving you the real scoop without going to into exhaustive or overwhelming detail. I felt that if there was something I wanted to know more about, they gave me the right tools to investigate further. I highly recommend this one!
This book is a pretty easy (but somewhat long) read and very informative answering most of the questions you and/or your spouse may have when expecting. I originally purchased the ebook for this but find it easier to skim or find certain sections in a physical copy so I bought the paperback as well. The diagrams in the ebook are also not as clear (they look "grainy"). Besides this book, i'd recommend getting the latest pregnancy book from the Mayo Clinic because it has more details on certain aspects of pregnancy. For instance, there is more detailed information as to what happens every few weeks along the entire length of pregnancy.

I highly recommend Expecting 411 as a complement to the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy book.
