Had check charging system light on,90% of alternator troubles on older Ford's are the brushes wear out. Unclip the wire, undo 4 #20 torque screws and remove the old regulator. Slip this new one in place, put back the 4 screws, connect the wire then pull out the small retaining wire holding the new brushes back inside the regulator. Start the engine and shes charging again.

If your original regulator was erratic, bouncing the needle off the high end.
Regulator went bad and the brushes were wore out. The bearings were still good, so this was the cheapest alternator rebuild out there. The instructions were good. The regulator and brushes worked just like new.
