Really good coverage my weathered work bag looks brand new (with a coat of conditioner on top of the product a week after it dried) You must, however, have a good prep place and gloves -- it does its job too well-- it dyes everything and it is difficult to take off if left for more than 30 seconds on a surface.
I've been using the kiwi dab-top bottle of dye before polishing my leather motorcycle boots for years and it looks pretty good. . . This time I cleaned the boots with acetone (like I read in someone's review) and used Fiebing's black leather dye to do the whole boot. . . I read in other reviews that this dye has troubles with uneven coverage so I used a 1" chip brush instead of the included applicator. I went for a heavy but smooth approach and as the dye went on it looked perfectly even, but after it had completely finished drying it looked kind of uneven. If you have ever used a sharpie to cover up scuffs and scratches than you know what I'm talking about when the finish of this black dye has a kind of purple sheen like sharpies do. Instead of doing a second coat of dye (why redo good the first time?) I polished them with kiwi black polish and the end result is a far better finish than my boots came with. The strength of the dye under the polish makes the brightest black I've... Read more
THIS IS A WONDERFUL DYE for equine tack. My mule looks best in black leather, so if I buy something for his saddle in a brown leather I count on Fiebing's to turn the leather a nice dense black. I clean the leather, layer this on, then after a few hours buff the excess off with a cloth. I even just now used it to dye the felt in a britchen, it sucked up a lot of it but did the job well. The leather will stay black for a long time, but if it gets worn, easy to give it a tune-up. Good to buy the version that includes the applicator, a puff of cotton on a wire. Makes the process just that much easier. But you CAN use a small brush for close work.
