18" X 30" X 1" Filtrete Micro Allergen Reduction Filter from 3M - #9828 - 6 pack The Filtrete Micro Allergen Reduction Filter carries a 3M Microparticle Performance Rating (MPR) of 1000 - roughly equivalent to a MERV 11 rating Click here for detailed comparison of 3M Filtrete 1" Filters Features: Meets the American Lung Association Health House Indoor Air Quality Guidelines No unnecessary antimicrobial chemicals added; Filtrete filtering material will not support the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew or fungi in normal use Contains electrostatically charged media to filter and attract particles in the airAttracts and captures large allergens like: Pollen Mold spores Dust mite debrisAttracts and captures microscopic allergens like: Smoke Pet dander Household dust Smog * This filter should be changed at least every 3 months. Certain conditions in your home will significantly add particles to the air - this will cause the filter to capture more particles, shortening it's life to less than 3 months. These conditions would include: dirty ductwork, pets, construction work, sanding projects, tobacco smoke, burning candles, fireplaces and wood-burning stoves. WHY USE MPR RATHER THAN MERV RATING? The Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry uses the ASHRAE 52.2 Standard, which assigns a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) to a filter. One part of MERV reports a filter's ability to capture medium to large particles between 1 and 10 microns. This value is helpful in comparing the performance of different filters but it is not adequate alone because particles greater than one micron make up only about 1% of the contaminants in your indoor air. Another part of MERV addresses submicron particles. 3M calls this the MPR or Microparticle Performance Rating. It measures a filter's ability to capture particles between 0

These are great- just be careful that too much filtration can OVERHEAT your heat and air units
I was using the Filtrete dark blue 1500 rated filters and thought they were great. But eventually I found the air flow was less and less and then it almost stopped altogether. I had to call my Heat/ AC guys and they told me that if I used the higher rated filter (1500 or so, different for each system), the one that 'stopped' more allergens/ dust/ etc, that these high rated ones fill up quickly with all the gunk the catch, and that they can slow down the air flow so much that it may cause your heat/ AC machinery to overheat and damage itself.
He switched me to the red Filtretes- they are rated 1000 and not 1500. If you truly need higher levels of filtration, make sure your heat/ ac system can handle it, and maybe you have to change the filters more often (the really highly rated filters grab EVERYTHING so all the dust etc builds up much more quickly and could block the...
Living in Florida where it is obviously very hot much of the year, I feel like I change my air conditioning filter constantly. I have always purchased them at the grocery store or someplace like that, but I found these here on Amazon and they seemed cheaper, since it's a 2-pack. And while I've never really paid attention to what brand of filter I buy, I believe Filtrete is at least one of the brands that I have purchased from a brick and mortar store.
I have used both of the filters in this pack and am ready to order more. I'm happy with them. I don't know anything technical about filters. Matter of fact, I rely on the writing on the side of the filter telling me which way to put it into the unit (it usually has an arrow showing which way the air flow goes). With these filters, that writing wasn't on the shorter side of the filter like I am used to, so at first I didn't think it was there and wasn't totally sure which way to put it in, but I found that information...
I usually purchase the least expensive A/C filters, however, when I lived in Nevada, the dust was bad, I upgraded to the Filtrete Micro Allergen Defense Filters to get my allergies and nosebleeds under control. The filters are effective at doing this, but despite the indication that each one lasts 3 months, I decided to replace it every two months just to be on the safe side. Not only was my family able to reduce the amount of allergy medication taken and number of tissues used, I also noticed that I didn’t have to dust my furniture quite as often nor did the Hepa filter in my vacuum get dirty as fast as when I used the cheaper filters. The 6-pack was convenient – for some reason the 20x20x1 size was difficult to find in local stores so I only had to travel to my garage to when I needed a fresh filter. My only concern was whether or not this filter was taxing my A/C system. I have always been told to use the cheaper filters to keep the system from having to work...
