Players of an outdoor treasure hunting game called Geocaching uncover the grisly clues left by a serial murderer on a nationwide killing spree. The murderer leaves obscure clues that the police don't connect. Players find these clues scattered around the country and write about them online. A couple in Austin, Texas begin to pull the clues together and a horrific picture begins to emerge. Will they identify and apprehend the killer before he kills again? Not before becoming targets themselves, when the killer joins the game and sets out a trap instead of a treasure.

First to find is full of firsts and finds that you may think you have all figured out until the ultimate first to find, every nightmare any geocacher has dreamed about. If it’s a gruesome murder, then why leave behind a jar of urine or a dead dog? Casual geocachers out for their finds will stumble upon more than they bargained for in this tale of murder and revenge. If the geocachers put together the clues, will they be led right to the killer or will he catch on to their game?
Mark Gessner opens his book First to Find with the quote “Never mess with a Geocacher — we know the best places to hide a body.” (Page 5). Gessner continues to give out great tidbits in this book, like little treasures waiting to be read. The writing style was continuously smooth, without hitches or hiccups. The flow of action was also quite smooth and progressed naturally, building up tension over time to its exciting climax.
Up where I live opportunities to cache hunt don't come often, so when I hear of a book about it I'm all over it.
FTF is a great story with good characterization builds. The mystery side of the equation was compelling enough to have me try reading it through in one sitting. Couldn't but went right back to it as soon as I could.
Initially it took me a little while to get the two sides of the story into sync in my mind but it all comes together just at the right time.
It's well worth "the price of admission" as they say. I'm actively looking for the next of Mr. Gessner's books and may have to head south for some of his hides.
282 pages of "Suspense" and "Geocaching"! You can tell Mr. Gassner is a true Geocacher because he did an excellent job with the caching parts of this book and when you consider the fact the caching tie in is the reason that I bought the book to begin with you can see how important that would be.
The rest of the story is so well written that at times you can just picture the look of utter horror on the victim's faces and smell the blood as it slowly dries.
I guessed early on why things were happening but of course the fun was in watching the heroes of the story figure things out for themselves so they could earn that much needed reward money and solve the grisly murders that even the police did not know were connected.
If you like mystery, adventure and perhaps a little romance I highly suggest giving "First to Find" a spot of your bookshelf or adding it as I did to your kindle collection.
