Fly cutter

Fly cutters are used primarily for machining large, flat surfaces. The fly cutter is a single-point cutting tool similar to a lathe tool mounted in a special angled holder. The cutter can be adjusted to cut up to a 2.00" (51 mm) diameter and is easily capable of taking a .010" (.24 mm) deep cut in aluminum at this diameter. The fly cutter comes complete with the holder, drawbolt, thrust washer and a left-hand ¼" brazed tip carbide cutting tool. NOTE: Because of the vibration caused by an interrupted cut, parts should be held very securely for fly cutting, and the safety glasses recommended for all machining operations are particularly important here because of hot, flying chips.
