Once we know what our priorities are, we can set some goals. Montgomery carefully outlines how to set goals that we can really work with.
Montgomery introduces us to the idea of keeping a time log for a few days, a journal to record how we are currently spending our time in a typical day. By studying our log, we can see where we could work more efficiently. For example, if I see that I’m spending two hours per day in my car, I can make a point to get some phone calls made while I drive. Maybe we need to see in black-and-white how much time we’re spending playing video games or watching T.V. A Time log will reveal that to us as well.
We can also examine our workspace for unnecessary clutter and clear it out. We can work more efficiently in an uncluttered space, where we can find everything we need immediately. Montgomery also reminds us to be careful with paper: act on it, delegate it, or file it .

I love the part on anti-multitasking. This is a must read and will put a lot of thing in perspective. All of the techniques offered in the book are spot on. This well worth the read!! This book is what I recommend if you want, like focus in your ability to perform your tasks. This book did a great job on showing all the ways to increase your focus. And some seem really simple but you would of never thought about it unless someone told you. And a lot of the tips and tactics in this book requires no training or what not, but it shows you the most efficient ways to keep your focus peaked when doing your tasks. Just book is a must buy.
I want to present an unbiased review to encourage you to buy this book. So, I'll point out two things I was hoping they'd fix in this edition: sometimes the illustrations still look reproduced at a lower quality and are occasionally distracting from the reading experience. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the internal typography and graphic layout. But that's the end of my fault-finding. The content is rock solid and incredibly useful, especially in our information overloaded day.
There are so many great ideas in the book that the authors have shared in the pages of this book. The book gives you some great ideas about setting goals for yourself. While it is hard to put this into action at times, this book makes it easier than most books that I have read in the past to do this. There are so many ideas about what one can do to get their life on track and get back to the things that matter most.
The author explains with extreme clarity what needs to be focused on in order to significantly improve reading and writing. The simplicity of his recommendations is what struck me to the core- it is something that may easily be digested and implemented. I am particularly fond of the Discussion Rubric he outlined- a few simple points that even my fifth graders can understand and that I already have posted on my wall ready for next year. His advice is straight forward- read text daily closely people have to be able to read and write and to analyze reading and writing.
