This is a very detailed historical report produced by the National Park Service for Fort Laramie. From its early days when it was known as Ft. William and then Ft. John and used by fur trappers to its acquisition by the United States to be used as a military fort to protect the trails and communication routes used by the pioneers and commerce. There is much information about indian relations and diplomacy and the treaties promulgated at the fort. This is a great source document for study of the region and time and has a very complete bibliography.
