Want to see the future? It is brighter than you think.
What we believe about tomorrow determines how we live today. As Christians debate how to faithfully engage with our rapidly changing world, our vision of the future has never been more important.
But rather than providing a clear sense of purpose for our lives, popular Christian ideas about the future steal it from us by saying our work in the world, apart from ministry, has no eternal value. Is it any wonder why young adults are less interested in church, or why a culture desperate for meaning and hope dismisses our message?
In Futureville, Skye Jethani offers us a vision-shifting glimpse of the world of tomorrow described in Scripture. He reveals how a biblical vision of the future can transform every person’s work with a sense of purpose and dignity today.
Futureville is a smart, inspiring call to cultivate the order, beauty, and abundance that reflects the heart and vision of God for our world.

I loved this book! I appreciate the thoughtful way Skye expresses himself and argues his point consistently throughout the book in a very readable and logical progression. I love the way he explains an old concept like ‘righteousness” in a new and memorable way. I think the repetition of the concepts of God’s order, beauty and abundance will resinate with me for a long time as I ponder how I am, and can continue to contribute to the Kingdom in a meaningful way.
For me, it is a great companion book to Michael Wittmer’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” that I read this summer. Both have different ways of explaining a similar concept in a way that will excite you to live in this world differently. Yet each are nuanced differently to help the Christian reader challenge the clarity and accuracy of the lens of their worldview.
I think this could be the first time for me the last chapter in the book was the best. Of course the title...
Futureville is a great examination and reminder of the adage, "Where you stand, determines what you see." Jethani does a good job at showing two extremes where protestant Christians have spent much time in the past 100 years. The first extreme of the social gospel that he ties into the concept of enlightenment thinking and evolution. The idea that Christians work to make the world a better place because this world is messed up. Not a bad place to be but sometimes lacks any genuine relationship with Christ. And after years of working in their own efforts many give up because perfection has not been achieved. The other extreme of salvation of souls only he calls evacuation. This idea is tied into the concept of an island where shipwreck victims find safety. Again not a bad place to be, shipwreck victims need safety. The problem comes with this concept that this world does not matter because it will someday be consumed by fire and destroyed. So people consume all...
I enjoy listening to Skye Jethani on Phil Vischer's weekly podcasts. When he said his book was out, I ordered two copies. Even before I finished the first reading, I was reading aloud to my husband, and marking paragraphs with sticky note arrows. Wow. the book blew me away. Now I am ordering two more to share. And I am so glad I also purchased his earlier book, WITH. Starting on that one now, too. What amazing insight. So thankful, as these books answer questions I have been pondering lately. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Skye Jethani for writing these amazing books. The books makes sense. And they are so comforting.
