When you start wearing the Garmin Vivosmart HR Activity Tracker, don't be surprised if you start referring to it as a person, jumping up out of your chair to tell your coworkers, friends, or family that "Vivo" just said you've been sitting for too long and need to get up. It sounds crazy, but this all-day fitness tracker will change the way you think about your everyday physical activity, encouraging you to stay consistently active throughout the day rather than being focused on detailed metrics from one high-intensity workout at a time. Since this is the Vivosmart HR, you'll have the added convenience of a built-in optical heart rate monitor measuring your BPM from your wrist, rather than from a clunky strap around your chest. As you go about your day, keep an eye on your heart rate to see how it changes, and feel free to take it along with you on runs or walks without needing to swap to a different fitness watch. Based on the CDC's recommended 150 minutes of physical activity per week, the Vivosmart files your workouts and will let you know if you haven't reached your daily or weekly goals. In addition to calculating your steps, the Vivosmart HR will also compute how many flights of stairs you've climbed, translating more exciting pursuits like an afternoon hike into a relatable metric. While you walk, you'll be able to stay abreast of smartphone notifications too, with the Vivosmart HR's screen giving you enough info to allow you to sort between trivial and important notifications so you can avoid being glued to your phone during your workout.

I had the Garmin Vivosmart HR for about 10 days and am writing this review which I hope might be useful for people who are interested in purchasing the device. If you regularly run outside and need GPS functions, this fitness tracker will not be adequate do for you.
The Vivosmart HR is the first of Garmin's devices to offer "Elevate" heart rate monitoring technology; Garmin's own in house tech and not something borrowed from Mio Global like the Forerunner 225. I suspect the Vivosmart HR work on "Smart recording" basis; the HR data is not captured per second but at various points during your workout or run where there could be a change in pace or direction and so on. The HR could be read once per second to even once every 7 seconds. But overall, it forms a good picture of your heart rate trend during the tracked activity. You can check out the picture I attached below of the Vivosmart HR compared against a Polar H7 Smart Bluetooth chest worn HRM...
I wanted to write a review on this because I feel like people who leave reviews of this product haven't given it a reasonable amount of time to become acquainted with using it, therefore unfairly bashing the product.
My specs: I am 38 year old female, 161lbs, Beachbody on Demand user [Challenge du Jour program (means blending of P90X, Insanity, Hammer and Chisel, etc workouts = 6 days per week, Sundays off.) I love workouts that burn over 350+ calories in 30+ minutes]. I surf. I do not run. If you are a runner, you'd probably want a watch with GPS. I am not a runner so I don't need that feature. Vivosmart HR was purchased from Best Buy on Oct. 27, 2015.
I absolutely LOVE this watch! I used to have the vivosmart band + chest strap and found it to be extremely glitchy and a pain in the ---- to use the heart rate monitor during my workouts - as for the vivosmart band itself, I really liked it.
These activity monitoring watches take some time getting...
My wife uses the Vivosmart and I have the Vivosmart HR for about a month now (Currently it’s exclusive to BestBuy). A friend of mine has the Fitbit charge HR – so I considered them all
Design: Vivosmart wins the beuty contest, looking more like a bracelet than a wearable electronic device. No buttons and you don’t even see there is a screen until it lights up. Fitbit charge HR is thinner, while the Vivosmart charge HR is certainly the ugliest. All 3, BTW, feels quite comfortable on the wrist. Winner: Vivosmart
Battery life: Vivosmart really does give you 7 days on normal use. The smart HR can give slightly more than 5 days presumably due to the HR sensor. It has a menu option to turn it off – but strangely enough it remains on – probably a firmware bug. The Fitbit charge HR can last for ~3 days Winner: Vivosmart
Software and support: Garmin devices were launched with tons of bugs. On the other hand...
