I like the way this pump works for gravel vacuuming. It makes cleaning out my fish tank much easier. I normally do not use any of the attached filters to get a little better suction. It doesn't pick up the gravel enough to suck it up so works quite well that way. The pump mechanism works well and normally takes about 5-10 quick pumps to have the siphon effect kick in. It is adjustable put I normally let it run open as the tube is small enough to maintain a paced rate of flow as is. I have a 5 gallon tank we keep a single Betta fish in and normally will replace 1/2 of the tank water each week and this has made that task significantly easier and more effective than scooping water out manually. I definitely recommend this pump as an effective option at a great price point.
I just got this syphon two weeks ago after my really expensive battery operated one took a pooh on me. I thought I was just buying this one till I could get another "top of the line one" cuz i just knew it probably not be the best considering how inexpensive it was. I'm happy to say that it actually works really well and I see no need for a more expensive one now. I won't be wasting my $ on a new one anytime soon. It does a great job and I love the design of the nozzle the way it is scalloped at the bottom making it less likely to pick up too much stuff that will plug it up half way thru the job. The suction is very good and sum times it's too good and I have to dial back the suction pressure. Lol Maybe the people who have had issues with suction or with the device itself aren't really using it correctly some how? I would definitely recommend this to a friend or family member. I actually did tell my daughter about it who recently took up the hobby of having fish again. She's...
I've used this a number of times to do partial water changes in my fish tank. My biggest warning for users of this product is to make sure you use a drain bucket that's bigger than the amount you intend to take out because it can be hard to stop the water flow quickly. Make sure the flow control is adjusted properly, it can drain very fast once it gets going. Was hard to get going at first until i realized you need to quickly squeeze the pump for a little bit befote you get a consistent flow, and then you can let it go.
I'd recommend looking up a couple of youtube videos on how to vacuum a tank, there are plenty of videos and the procedure is generally the same with different gravel vacuums.
If you have a very active and resonsive fish like I do, keep an eye on him. When the vacuum is in the gravel it wont hurt him but he may swim up to check it out and it's best to just be cautious. I have a betta who is always curious of what's happening. Also, if you plan to...
