EDIT: WOW...This lasted me only 2 years ???? My R9 270x recently gone wonky and had some driver issue. Apparently it's an widespread issue that's quite common with the R9 series. ughh
> My thoughts This R9 270x is well worth my $206 spent. I thought of the Powercolor Devil version, and the Sapphire Toxic edition, but they were priced at $230 and $250 respectively. The Asus DirectCU II version performs similarly, but the plate that holds the fans and covers the heat sinks did not fully cover the PCB , making it look a little awkward. You may have a different opinion though.
> What about the other R9 270x -es ? Basically, in terms of performance, not cooling and sound, all R9 270x performs the same. AMD makes the reference design and GPU chip, while Manufacturers such as Asus and Gigabyte designs cooling systems and sells the Graphics Cards to us. Some of them are factory overclocked, but it's no different than you doing it yourself. You can...
Temperatures: COOL - This card stays under 50C at all times, and hits a maximum of 50C during heavy gameplay. Stays ridiculously cool. The three fans and heatsinks are way overkill. It stays so cool that the fans are quiet and you can barely hear it.
Noise level: LOW - Due to this card having a mega-heatsink and 3 fans, it stays cool all the time, and therefore the fans are less than a whisper. Even during gameplay you might barely hear the fans kick in.
Performance: DECENT - On maximum settings (extreme + anti-aliasing) at 1080p, Starcraft II gets anywhere from 40-140 FPS depending on the units. On average, it stays between 60-70FPS. - The 3D passmark rating for this card is 4905, which is significantly above what is listed for the r9 270x (listed as 4500, I believe). - The 2D passmark rating was above 1000 (which is apparently above a GTX 980? strange).
You can definitely game on this. I got this one because it gets you the...
Got this card for almost a steal at $159.99. My previous build had a gtx 660 sc edition and I got around 40 fps on bf4 ultra settings at 1080p. That card was around $220. I had for a long time been an nvidia fanboy. WOW! This card has opened my eyes to the amd (and gigabyte) graphics world. Such a beautiful place. But in all seriousness, this is an EXCELLENT card for the money. Let's talk about the cooler... The new tri-cool technology is one hell of a good one. I have overclocked (the already overclocked card), and I have never seen this thing go above 62 degrees Celsius. Quite impressive. In battlefield 4 multiplayer I get 50-60 fps on the ultra preset, depending on the map. It pretty much maxes out ANY game I've thrown at it (tomb raider, bf3, mw3, assassins creed 2) titanfall, and many more to come) with 60 fps. Occasionally a game will run slower (ie bf4) but the frame rates are still very playable and turning off aa usually brings it back up to a respectable frame rate. The card...
