Volume 2 in this series is an excellent survey of the Great Northern's second generation of diesel locomotives in both Omaha orange and Pullman green as well as the Big Sky Blue paint scheme. Each class is presented separately and there are complete locomotive rosters, including a list of assignment of engines by Division. Engines shown include SW1500 switchers, EMD GP20, GP30, and GP35 four-axle road units, GE U25B and U28B fo-r axle and U33C six-axle road locomotives, Electro-Motive SDP40 and SDP45 passenger diesels and Electro-Motive SD45 and cowl F45 heavy freight locomotives.
