Guatemalan Women Speak

This book is a vibrant collection of interviews with women from all walks of Guatemalan life. It highlights the multiple dimensions of women's oppression, as well as their increasing protagonism as agents of social change. It is a necessary contribution toward filling a gaping hole in the literature on Guatemala. The author, Margaret Hooks, is a journalist and writer based in Mexico. She has been writing regularly on Guatemala since 1984. Rigoberta Menchu is an indigenous Guatemalan activist for human rights. In 1992, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
