An honored veteran of two World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and lesser conflicts across the globe, the .45 ACP is now more popular than ever for competition shooting, law enforcement and self-defense. Now, just in time for the .45 ACPs 100th anniversary, handgun expert Pat Sweeney gives us the inside scoop on America's favorite big-bore cartridge. If you own a handgun or carbine chambered for the big .45, or if you're considering buying on, you'll find everything you need in the Gun Digest Big Fat Book of the .45 ACP.

I didn't care for this book much. I thought it would be a thorough review of the history of the .45 ACP round and associated guns that fired it over the years. Was expecting photos of the guns that fired the cartridge, etc.

It wasn't really like that though, it was more text and fewer pictures, and covered things like shell case specifics, the actual different bullets and other items that you can use to reload the cartridge. Pictures of cartridges and components of the cartridge.

There was some history of the .45 ACP and the guns that fire it, but that was only the first chapter or so, and there was like 6 or 7 times as much info on other stuff that I didn't find all that interesting.

But if you really want to know about the cartridge components, the case, the bullet, the powder, the primer, then this is the book for you!! However it is not really a "reloading" book...
The .45ACP is a subject I have been interested in since I found myself at an estate sale buying an old M&P chambered in the round in order to get a better deal on the Colt Revolver I was really interested in.

Long story short: the Colt now sits in my gun safe (as a collectible) while the M&P chambered in 45ACP has turned out to be a favorite pistol on the range.

This book covers all the basics and then some. There's a reasonably good history of the carriage and a fairly strong case for its validity as a competitive and defensive choice today (even though its a 100+ year old design).

The book was fun to read and very informative.

I'd place it in the MUST READ category for anyone wanting to shoot and/or reload this magnificent caliber.
I have found out just what I did not know concerning the 1911 model automatic pistol. This book opened that big door of knowledge for me and I now understand why this particular handgun has survived for so many years in the hands of warriors, sportsmen, marksmen, and people like me who understand the value of great home and personal security. Great book! Just the reloading information is outstanding by itself. Thank you for providing this book.
