For DIY thermoforming: Holstex Carbon Fiber Textured Sheet is very similar to both Kydex and Boltaron in the way it forms when heated and molded around an object. Once cooled, this material will keep the shape of the item that was used to mold the shape into place. In its cooled state, it is very durable and light weight. It is used widely in thermoform holster making, cosplay costume creation, removable surface coverings, keel guard protectors, and much more.
3K Twill Carbon Fiber Texture: The carbon fiber texture applied to the surface of the Holstex sheet is referred to as 3K Twill pattern. This is a reference to the size and shape of the texture and is common on many carbon fiber items. 3K Twill is the most common carbon fiber weave size. The carbon fiber texture on Holstex sheet is 3 dimensional and provides wonderful contrasts and lighting reflections, giving its appearance a striking effect on finished items.
Molding Press: The Kydex Molding Press is the industry standard in thermoplastic forming presses. Built from rugged 0.25 inch steel plate with full black surface coating, this forming press will last a lifetime. It is perfect for making flat-faced or a full fold-over sheath and holster. These are used for securing knives, firearms, web-gear, flashlights, magazine clips, cell phones and many other items. Using this tool, you can make wraparound sheaths/holsters with both pieces of foam.
How to Use: To use this tool, simply heat your thermoplastic material to 300-375 degrees (depending on heating time and oven used). Then cover or wrap your item with the heated material. Once this is done, place the wrapped item in the molding press and apply pressure (chain locking optional). Our molding press will do the work for you and quickly improve the quality of your sheaths and holsters.
Foam: This model of the Kydex Press uses Maxx Form for the center foam of the press. This molding foam has been specifically engineered for use in press molding sheet materials like Kydex, Holstex, and Boltaron. It also greatly minimizes memory artifacts due to superior chemical formulation. This foam can also be used on both sides, unlike other products. If you want a great all-around molding effect, Maxx Form is the standard for thermoform molding applications.
