This book really helped my 2 yo understand what was going on. It's very informative, not at all graphic like other reviews said. My little one especially liked the pics of how the baby grows. I showed him one of the very small pics and told him the story of why I call him bean, he asked to hear about it over and over. I highly recommend this book for expecting parents with very young children. Another book that was really great is "what baby needs"

Here's a not entirely on topic tip if you have very young kids and are expecting AND planning on reusing some of the things from your older child: my 2 yo recognized some of the things we were getting ready for the baby, like blankets, stroller, bouncy chair... The first time he saw the baby in one of "his" blankets, he got a bit possessive. Why is the baby using my blanket? He asked. I told him, "well, it's not really your blanket, it's my blanket. And I let you use it and now I'm letting this baby use it." He only asked a few... Read more
My son who was two and half at the time loved this book. He actually wanted to name his sister after the baby in the book. The process felt very familiar to him. He liked that they talked about going with mom to the doctor to hear the baby's heart beat which he had done. They showed mom going through his old clothes to get them ready for the new sister. And we didn't mind the scientific detail of fetal development. He found it interesting and liked to talk about what his sister was doing in there now- what parts were growing. What I liked best about this book was the modeling of a new sibling being an exciting experience and that his role as a brother was going to be special and important. In the book the brother has an idea for a trick to stop the baby from crying. I think my son really took the message to heart.
This is my FAVORITE book to prepare siblings for a new baby. It shows going to the doctor with mommy and hearing the baby's heartbeat. There is a beautiful two- page spread of baby's development from conception to full-term. It shows the older sibling (I assume is a boy) having fun with grandparents while baby is being born. The grandparents show how he used to be small, too, but now he is big. I love the sweet and realistic expressions of the baby as Daddy and big sibling dress him/her for bed. All four of my older children adore this book and I quite enjoy it myself. I purchased this copy to give to my friend expecting #2!
