Choma (Burn)
It is a typical early-70s mix of modal and free jazz, played by a group that is half way between acoustic and electric. The material allows the players to stretch out, pushed along by the veteran drummer.
Boston-born Haynes had been an early adherent of bebop, playing with Charlie Parker for a number of years. A pioneer of new techniques in jazz playing, he worked with Lester Young, Billie Holiday and Eric Dolphy. Under-recorded as a leader, the albums he made, such as his two for Prestiges New Jazz label, are always sought-after.
