I suggest Amazon straighten up this problem since a lot of harps are listed as Minor Eb, Minor D, Minor C .... but they are actually in MAJOR Keys. For buyers,we should look at the code-name of the item to make sure it is the right thing we need : _Hohner 1896BX-A Marine Band : A means A-Major _Hohner 1896BX-MA Marine Band : MA means Minor-A or Am (harmonic minor) _Hohner 1896BX-NMA Marine Band : NMA means Natural-Minor-A or Am (natural minor) G means G-Major ,MG means Gm(harmonic minor),NMG means Gm(natural minor) ....and so on... For the harmonica itself ,it is the famous 1896 Marine Band ,and the piece I bought just works perfectly ,no issues. Below is the (Richter) tuning chart for it : (Hohner 1896 Marine Band) 10-hole diatonic_Key of A-Major : BLOW : Hole# 1/A3 2/Db4 3/E4 4/A4 5/Db5 6/E5 7/A5 8/Db6 9/E6 10/A6 DRAW : Hole# 1/B3 2/E4 3/Ab4 4/B4 5/D5 6/F#5 7/Ab5 8/B5 9/D6 10/F#6
The 2 draw made a whistling sound when I pulled this out of the box. I had to take the harmonica apart and adjust the comb to get the sound I was looking for. It also seems to yank out a whisker or two while playing. I think I will stick to the Special 20s as I havent had issues with those.
This was my third attempt to get a good deal on a minor key harmonica from Amazon. I asked for a Special 20 (as a gift - also bought from Amazon) Minor G for Christmas that turned out also to be a Major G. I then ordered a Blues Harp Minor G for $15.98, it's a great harmonica but also was sent the wrong key (Major G). After that I ordered this unit, a Minor A Marine band for $20 - also had been swapped for a Major key. I'm not how the business works of swapping out cheap Minor harmonica units with much more costly Major ones, but three in a row? There must be something going on. The boxes were clearly resealed with the same factory sticker as the first one. Perhaps they are shipped to Amazon with the cardboard flat and are boxed up by people with no-music-theory. Maybe there's a conspiracy to keep musicians away from Minor key instruments. Maybe Hohner doesn't really make Minor key harmonicas, just refunds for the few musicians who can tell the difference but unlike myself...
