Holds chisels and plane irons in a set position to ensure a square edge on tools. One side of the clamp is slightly rounded to prevent shifting of the blade while in use. The honing angle is adjusted by regulating the extent to which the chisel or iron is projecting beyond the edge of the guide. For example, to achieve a 25 degree angle on a chisel it needs to project exactly 1-5/8'' from the edge of the guide. The most common projections are clearly stamped on the side of the guide for easy reference.
