Have had this one a long time (since the early days of CDs), good from beginning to end, one of those albums you can put on at a gathering and play straight through. Polished, tight and near flawless sound. Surprised to hear this one took several days and many retakes, the end result sounds fresh, inspired and without the sonic flaws that often accompany tape that's been recorded over too many times or has been spliced. Maybe what took so long was insisting on doing perfect performances that could stand on their own without doctoring? The horns and drums sound fabulous on my copy, lots of sass but no harshness in the brass, the drums sound like drums, not white noise. Only thing is, the piano sounds muffled or distant a little, but that seems to be the way he liked to be miked, all his albums are like that.
