Additional Information

Neal O. Michell The quick-start program described in this book is designed for the new rector or pastor who wants to "hit the ground running." It is also designed for principal lay leaders who will be instrumental in the transition to new leadership. The program takes the new pastor, vestry, or other leadership bodies from one month prior to the new leader's arrival through the first eighteen months afterward. Organized in a user-friendly workbook format, this guide gives step-by-step suggestions on how the sometimes stalled and directionless period of transition in a faith community can be made dynamic and purposeful—a time of true congregational development.

Very instructive, plentiful fodder for thoughtful rumination - at times, pragmatic - at other times, a tad more theoretical in its scope. If you enjoy studying the life cycles of systems (and who doesn't ? :) you'll especially appreciate the book's addressing the issues faced with every type of congregation - from the very new, to those time honored institutions whose challenges of re-visioning and revitalization may need to be addressed. All in all, a great read - and, if shared by key leaders of a church (particularly those serving in Vestry positions and transition teams, etc.) a tremendous boon to the new, transitioning Rector and his / her family. Highly recommended!
This book is the guide you need to confidently start out as the priest in charge of a congregation, by whatever title, Michell is an able guide to the dynamics that might take years to sort out otherwise and he shares lots of best practices along the way.
Truly, this is the best book in the marketplace for new Rectors, and for those who want to revitalize their churches. A must have on any clergy's book shelf. I have purchased one for each of my vestry members and suggest you do the same.
