I was a little reluctant to purchase this due to the fact that a lot of the reviews are from 2007-2010 and that technology has gotten better since then like the multi coating that propels water and dust off, but those filters are 80-150 U.S. dollars. I've also read some reviews that when ordering these Hoya filters that are made in Japan you would sometimes get one from the Philippines but that wasn't the case with this one. I couldn't be more satisfied with this filter and my lens cap stays on great even though it is low profile frame, in fact the lens cap stays on better now then without it. I can't tell you how many times I grab my camera out of my bag and the lens cap wasn't on it while I didn't have a filter on it and thankfully there has been no damage to the actual lens from this. To be honest I haven't done any tests to see how the pictures come out with or without it on and I simply purchased this to protect my lens but the pictures I have taken with this are tact sharp on my...
Fantastic product! I've been buying Hoya filters for decades and have NEVER been disappointed. In the old days I bought mostly CC (Colour Correction) filters, but today, because of post processing software like Adobe Camera Raw, Lightroom, Photoshop and more, I only use UV/Skylight filters to protect the front elements of my lenses. In the early days, the filters were great, but now they are even better. This filter is BEAUTIFUL! The multi-coated glass is brilliant, the thinner metal mount (less vignetting, specially if stacking filters like ND's) and the fact that the edge of the glass is blacked even further reduces internal flair and reflections. Add to that, that Hoya is the world's largest optical glass manufacturer... Need I say more. If you are looking for the BEST filter to protect your expensive lenses, you can't do any better than Hoya, period!
I must have received the bottom of the stock. First, the black support ring inside of the package/box (not the filter itself) was broken and a piece fell out of the filter case when opened. You could hear a rattling sound before the filter box was opened. Hopefully it was not sliding around on the surface of the filter. Second, the filter was very dirty when I opened the package. Definitely required a good amount of cleaning. Third, it took some finesse to get it threaded onto my lens. Maybe the threads were off or there was some debris in the threads (which would not be surprising given the broken plastic piece and all of the dust, particles in the package).
I have purchased these exact same Hoya Pro1 filters as well as other Hoya filters before, from Amazon and from others, and have never had any of these issues. Not sure if this was actually a "used" filter rather than new as advertised, or shipping damage, or if Hoya simply screwed this one up, but this...
