I Would Wear That: A Self-Absorbed Study in Non-Functional Weaving
I challenge the aesthetics of weaving, just as in my earlier work in digital design, writing, and ceramics, I twisted the traditions of websites, poetry, and clay. First setting limits and then breaking them, I create the most dynamic, unexpected work. My sculptures and tapestries apply the Japanese philosophy of SAORI. With its Zen mindset, SAORI encourages freeform work—no patterns, no rules, no mistakes. Every sculpture is an improvisation in awkward beauty: clumpy fabric, fighting colors, rough and smooth textures, ragged edges. Accessibility is key. I extract humor and irony from my experience. I twist my reality into sculptures. “I Would Wear That†is a collection of useless handwoven wall hangings. Their only function is to look nice. I wove with colors I like to wear. They belong on the wall, not in my laundry basket. I wish my closet looked like this.
