IPEVO's Mini Network Storage Adapter is the tiny box with the big ability to turn any USB storage device into a network file-sharing server. Just connect the leprechaun green adapter to your network's Ethernet router, and then plug your USB external drive into Mini Network Storage Adapter. You'll be able to access, share, and store files between your drive and any computer on your network. Add storage, flexibility, and convenience to your digital life, all with one very helpful little box.
The essence of Mini Network Storage Adapter's excellence is the Mini Dashboard, a web-based interface that allows you to handle file sharing in style. You can set up your drive to be accessed via FTP or Samba (SMB) servers, set passwords, and choose exactly which folders you'd like to share. You can also make your photo, video, and music files accessible for streaming to your Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and iTunes. All your entertainment devices are invited to the party with Mini Network Storage Adapter around!
Plus, Dashboard also comes with an easy-to-use BitTorrent client. You can control several torrents at once within Dashboard, and Torrent files will directly download to your USB storage device - without a computer! This is great for all of those, uh, completely legal, open-licensed multimedia files you have full permission to download and enjoy, right?
Mini Network Storage Adapter is fully compatible with PC and Mac: if you've got a router and a USB drive with FAT32 format, you're on your way to file-sharing glory. (And even if your drive is not FAT32, or you're unsure, Dashboard's disk utility makes formatting your drive to FAT32 a snap.) Add a little muscle to your multimedia merriment with Mini Network Storage Adapter!

I was going to get this unit until I went to the IPEVO web site and checked their specs. It only supports FAT32, so it was unsuitable for my requirements. If you need NTFS support, get the CiragoLink+ (NUS2000). Do not get the NUS1000 either since is does not fully support NTFS either (read only).
I'm going ahead and giving this device four stars because it's reasonably well designed and I suspect that it works well for PC users and perhaps other platforms when when the NAS needs are fairly simple, but I do not recommend buying this with the intention of using to link to a Time Machine backup volume. After giving up trying to make my WD MyBook Live work reliably for that purpose, I happened upon this and figured I could use the WD's drive with this driving it to create a Time Machine backup based on a simpler management mechanism (that is, ditch WD's convoluted software). I noted from another review that ExFAT was supported, which should have been sufficient for this purpose (IMPORTANT NOTE: I was told by support that these devices ONLY use ExFAT, not FAT32 as indicated in all of their support materials. Also note that you essentially *have to* have the Mini's software format the drive for you in order for the system to work, it requires a special file/directory...
I gave it 5 stars because it's cheap. Only $50, and you can put your hard drive on the local internet. But this device has severe limitations that is a deal breaker to many people. A list of the dealbreakers follow:
1. usb 2.0 connection to hard drive means you have a bottleneck in bandwidth when you are streaming, downloading, or uploading data or video. For example, if you normally stream at 1.5 Mbps, with 2 streams, it gets split into 2 streams of 800 Mbps, and with 3 streams, you get 3 streams at 400 Mbps, and etc. If you have too many concurrent processes on this hard drive, you will be totally down and out on bandwidth. Go figure. In addition, try streaming a video and there might be lots and lots of pauses, because, bandwidth limitations.
2. Hard drive must be usb 2.0.
3. Hard drive must be less than 1.5 tb. If you thought you could recycle your old hard drive that is 2 tb or larger, nope, you can't. What a waste. Time to drive over...
