Irish Red is an refreshing, popular beer style closely related to English Bitters. This Irish Red has virtually no hop aroma and moderate hop flavor, and a moderately malty aroma and flavor. It has a very clean finish with a low toffee flavor. The use of roasted barley for coloring results in a slightly roasted red color and also creates a dry finish.

After getting my homebrew kit for a father's day present, I was having a hard time decided what my first brew should be. Irish reds tend to be a favorite of mine, so I decided on this, even though I was a little sceptical because of lack of reviews. Box came pretty quick, all ingredients and instructions nicely packed. You could tell by the aroma the ingredients were fresh, which was a big plus. No problems making the wort, which smelled great. I left it in the primary for a week, then transfered into secondary carboy for another 2 weeks, which really enhanced the color and flavor of the beer. Tasted it when bottling and some notes were a little to strong for my liking, but after 2 weeks in the bottles, it mellowed out, carbonated great, and tasted amazing. Great red color, and probably the best Irish red I've ever had. I would strongly recommend doing the secondary fermentation for 2 weeks. Drastically improved the color, clarity and taste. I'm going to set a six pack aside for a few...
I reached out in the comments to ask another member how this turned out, but to no avail. Despite my reservations, I ordered the kit and in a few days a USPS box arrived at my house. I opened the box and found that there was no fluff, no boxed kit, there were just ingredients (partial mash) and instructions. The 6 pound pouch of DME and other pouches had handwritten on it what it was and when to use them. Admittedly I wrinkled my nose and thought what the hell is this. Brew day came and went and I had no problems with making the wort, everything went smooth. Eight days go by and I find that the FG reading on the batch is where I want it to be so I bottled 51 bottles of beer to condition.
Fast forward 7 days now. I opened one to test it out. This beer turned out really good. The dark red color of the batch hails to it being a true Irish Red. The beer has a slightly malty flavor with subtle hints of caramel notes to it. It's not overly hoppy (which I detest in...
Just ordered this beer kit excited to brew it up and try it. This is my first partial grain batch
