Hart Ducaine was the love of Kate Miller's life, but he hadn't been interested in a long-term relationship with her fifteen years before. So why should she trust him now? There is no way he will ever be her knight in shining . . . she can't remember the word . . . knight in shining whatever!
A professional bull rider turned rancher, Hart only has eyes for Kate, but she is one sassy piece of baggage--even more so than back when she was a teenager and she'd first caught his eye.
Trust is hard to regain once it's been broken, and neither of them are willing to take chances with matters of the heart--not anymore. And then Kate's Cajun grandmother, Maw Maw, and some of her other relatives set a plan into motion to abandon the two on a primitive island in the bayou. No cell phones. No electricity. No running water. And no one to talk to except each other.
Will they figure out what Maw Maw already knows: that fate is drawing them together and they need to learn to trust their hearts?

I started this 3 book series about three high school friends after reading another Carolyn Brown. I like her writing style. Her stories are original and the characters feel real even when circumstances are a little far fetched. This book takes place in Texas and Louisiana. Both landscapes are interesting in the book. The love story is sweet with plenty of sexual tension before the characters finally get together.
This is a trememdous book. I loved the setting in Breckenridge, Texas. I live 30 miles south of Breckenridge. I felt like I had traveled every road and noticed every motel and restaurant. Visited the streets of Albany, Texas several times in between. Loved the writer's detail of each area and the Bayou of Louisiana. Great story and thanks for a clean and lovely story.
This is not my favorite Carolyn Brown story, but I actually purchased this e-book because of its settings. As the story progressed, several passages revealed that the author doesn't really know much about her chosen setting or certain Texas rivalries. The hero states he attended TAMU, but later he is described as donning an orange Texas Longhorn shirt. I don't think so. Also, Albany and Breckenridge are considered to be west Texas, not central Texas. I've learned my lesson about choosing a book over another one just because of its setting and hope the next Carolyn Brown book is as good as The Ladies' Room!
