Fall Out Boy, the most exciting rock breakthrough act of 2006, return with their much anticipated new album 'Infinity On High', the follow up to the platinum selling 'From Under The Cork Tree' album, which spawned 2 Top 10 smashes the massive 'Sugar We're Goin' Down' and the amazing follow up 'Dance, Dance'. 'Infinity On High', once more produced by long term collaborator Neal Avron and, on 2 tracks, hip-hop and r'n'b production legend Baby Face, is pre-ceded by the (soon to be) huge hit single 'This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race'. This is the LP version.

I've been listening to this album on and off for a few years now, so this isn't an "initial impressions" review. It seems as though FOB's sound has slowly evolved over the course of their albums from a more Blink-182 like sound on their first album, to a more power-pop-punk-rock sound on this album, to a more simply pop-rock sound on their latest album. I really like this "middle career" sound on this album, as I think it's really where they wrote their best songs.
So what's this album like? The best way to describe it is pop-rock, hook-heavy songs with some punk rock styled verses and wide, dynamic vocal melodies. It reminds me of a lot of the good 80's pop-rock, but with more punk-rock edge to it. I love the clever titles on the songs and the lyrics are pretty witty and enjoyable. I can honestly say that this is one of half a dozen albums I own that I consider solid - meaning that I really like every single song on the album and don't skip over any when I play them...
"Infinity on High," the follow-up album to Fall Out Boy's "From Under the Cork Tree," definitely had a lot of momentum going into it, what with Cork Tree's amazing lineup of tracks that made it go double platinum. The question here is whether or not it delivered on the hype. The simplest answer; yes. While the album doesn't have nearly as many "hits" as Cork Tree, it is filled to the brim with solid tracks that any fan of the Alternative/Pop Punk genre will love. Sure, it's no Cork Tree, but as far as albums go, it's right under Cork Tree, and thus is still an amazing album that this review doesn't do justice to.
Ultimately, Each person is going to reflect and choose their reasons, but, Most people I know(spanning from girlfriend, close friends, to own Mother) have enjoyed this CD, even if they think the song This ain't a scene its an arms race, says "This ain't a city, it's a goddamn horse race." Overal The score i chose for this cd is a not a true reflection of my score. The real score i'd give it is a 4.34
I know. It sounds like an odd number, however, I have good reason for it.
To prep you, this album is much more emphasis on the rock than previous albums have. I'd describe it as prevous albums as more punk, with this being the Fallout Rock. As in it's rock but it's filled with that dark adn gloomy yet also cheerfuly sounding lyrics that make FOB just who they are.
While much of the cd is amazing(sans 2 songs) there are 3 that shine above the rest.
First is Your crashing, but your not a wave. It has that feeling of a political messege...
