I have worked in the area of environmental management for over 15 years. This has included significant work on ISO 14001 environmental management systems (EMS). Recently ISO released its ISO 50001 energy management systems (EnMS) standard. Now I'm faced with the challenge of developing ISO 50001 EnMSs for clients. The authors of this book know their stuff. They have done a fine job presenting the new ISO standard in a logical and easily understood manner. The book takes the reader successively through the standard in a step-by-step fashion. By the time I was finished, I understood the standard and was ready to begin consulting work.

"I've been working for the last two years in Berlin, Germany as a consultant for energy savings in industries. As such, I've been accompanying industries in the process of certification in compliance with ISO 500001. This book was really helpful to me, it gives a good overview of how an energy management system works. It explains the importance of finding appropriate energy performance indicators and how to actually engage the management. Furthermore, the political purposes and environmental goals of ISO 50001 become clear.
For each step of the certification process, the authors ask questions such as "what does that mean? ", "how do we implement this?". They answer giving practical and detailed examples that I could apply in a large variety of industries from different sectors. The authors go through the certification process step by step, so that one understands how each practical detail fits into the purpose of ISO 50001.
