I'm new to MPEG, but needed to learn more about its ecosystem, particularly MPEG PS and TS. I turned to the sections covering those areas and, even though I'm new to the field, I spotted errors immediately. Page 34 "A program stream is called a single program transport stream (SPTS)." No, a program stream is not a transport stream, and it only ever has a single program.
Figure 1.15 is basically content-free and unrealated to "Figure 1.15 shows how MPEG transmission can be used to combine video, audio, and data onto on packet data communcation channel.". Sorry, the figure provides exactly zero related information. It looks like it was lifted from somplace else that may have been trying to show effects of network buffering. That's a guess, because it does a poor job at showing that, too.
Page 35, massive typos/typesetting issues. "... a Pprogram Aassociiallocation Ttable (sic)".... "Pprogram Mapmapping Ttable (sic)". Spell checker,...
This is a much needed book in the video compression world. It does a nice job of giving an overview of the history and technology. It dives into details but also gives you the big picture. (No pun intended.) There are a lot of diagrams which is helpful as a lot of this information can be dry. The authors make something that is complex simple to understand. Even the latest technology, MPEG-DASH, is included so it is also very current. An excellent value for the money.
This book gives clear concise information on all aspects of MPEG. Very useful to any person in this field or entering into the complex world of communications.
