Buckalew was raised in a Christian home, taken to church and taught scripture. On a dead-end dirt road, God called him to preach. Yet, he pursued another way of life; one that included drinking (maybe moonshine), gambling, and brawling. From the hog pen of sin, he was saved, sanctified, and baptized in the Holy Ghost. From meals consisting of cheese and crackers, to spending nights under the stars, to imprisonment, and destruction of his meager possessions, he persevered on his evangelistic journey, for the Church of God, without complaint.
