I humbly ask the question because in recent months I've had JBL's own Studio 530s and Studio L830s in my home. All exhibited that truthful JBL sound. In my listening room, however, I'm actually leaning to keep these Studio 230s. I really didn't expect them to perform better in my room than the 530s. Oh well, this is very subjective stuff. Woe to the speaker makers out there who have to deal with ears like mine!! Look on internet for good photos of these. They are understated but beautiful speakers. What has me leaning towards these? Rock solid imaging and sound staging. Someone is gonna measure these and my hunch is that they'll measure flat. Folks are going to be pleasantly blown away by the sheer musicality of these.

4/1/14 update: I decided to keep the 230s. I returned the L830s to Amazon. Both are fine speakers. I just find that the 230s overall have a more balanced presentation. They are also more dynamic and "live" sounding.
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) First off, I use these speakers in a 2.1 setup for MUSIC ONLY. So, if you're wanting to know how well these speakers performed in a home theater surround setup (although I'm sure they'd be great), this review may not help you much.

As I said, I use these speakers for music only, and after using them for a few weeks to listen to many different genres of music, I am very happy with them. Thrilled really. They effortlessly handled everything I threw at them. I wasn't once disappointed with them. They sound they produce is outstanding. They produce warm, very smooth, never harsh highs, very accurate midrange, and punchy, precise, never muddy bass. And that's precisely what I want from a speaker I'm using for music.

Also, since I'm using these for music only, I was very concerned that the rear-firing bass ports would degrade/muffle/distort low end music clarity. Especially given that I needed to place these speakers very close to the wall (about two inches). However,... Read more
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) I have a 7.1 system and have been using these as my front 2. I am really impressed with the bass response and the separation of highs, mids and lows (ok, I'm not an audiophile). This is the third set of speakers I've had in the front position. My original Klipsch Synergy B-20s did a fine job (they are now my "height" speakers in the 7.1 configuration), then my Polk TSx220Bs did a better job (though not a huge jump) and now the JBLs are doing the best job.

The thing about the Klipschs and Polks was they didn't have the "oomp" for the bass I would have wanted (lack of rear port hole on the Polks might have been part of it). The JBLs do, but it doesn't compete with the mid and high range notes. The thing that really caught my ear was when I was listening to music using just stereo, i.e., the JBLs only, and I could have swore the sub woofer was on. It wasn't. The JBLs were producing a sub woofer effect all by themselves, yet it wasn't blending with the other... Read more
