Additional Information

It’s time to make a choice.

Many young adults are abandoning the Christian faith, convinced that it's an outdated and uneducated belief system. Dan DeWitt counters these misconceptions and challenges us to think carefully about the choice between Jesus and nothing by comparing the Christian worldview with the notion of a godless universe devoid of true goodness and ultimate significance.

This winsome book describes the rock-solid foundation for life that Christians enjoy in and through the gospel—offering an explanation for our existence, grace for our guilt, and meaning for our mortality.

Who is the author, to whom is he writing, and what does he hope to accomplish?

In his latest release, Jesus or Nothing (Crossway, 2014), Dan DeWitt sets out to “encourage believers in their love of the gospel, challenge skeptics in their rejection of it, and assist Christian parents and leaders as they contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3).” As the Dean of Boyce College and former college pastor, Dan is in the ideal position to get an accurate beat on the spiritual pulse of that generation. For this genre, I can honestly say this read was refreshing. Dan actively avoided dabbling into the crockpot of straw man arguments and polarizing characterizations of the evil atheist who are secretly miserable and wish they were Christians just to make a point. There was a genuine heart behind this book that bled over into every chapter: There is a God. He’s real. Indifference is rejection. Here are your options: Jesus or... Read more
"The reader must move beyond the extremes and rhetoric and consider the central claims of the Christian faith." DeWitt does an exceptional job of helping readers do just this. In his book, you will find a compelling argument that the choice we all make is both simple and deeply meaningful. It is simple because there are really only two options---Jesus or nothing. However, it is deeply meaningful because if the Gospel is true, as DeWitt argues, then everything matters. It is a choice with eternal implications.

I would recommend this book for Christians young (teens) and old. DeWitt does an excellent job of wading into the philosophical waters without requiring readers to possess a vast vocabulary of philosophical jargon. For the Christian, this book will remind you of the supreme importance of the Gospel while also helping you stay mindful of the sincere position and concerns of those who are skeptical of your beliefs.

If you are a skeptic, I would highly... Read more
Today many Christians of all ages are questioning their Christian faith. Since 9/11 a new movement of bold atheists has arisen to question and even ridicule the Christian faith. While some are even saying that the Christian faith is outdated and Christians are uneducated and believe a bunch of fairytales, the Lord is raising up an army of apologist-theologians who are unashamed of the gospel. A new book Jesus Or Nothing by Dr. Dan DeWitt, dean of Boyce college, the undergraduate school of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, writes to counter these objections and help Christians to think carefully by comparing the Christian worldview with the notion of a godless universe devoid of true goodness and ultimate significance.

The author states his purpose is not “to offer finely tuned apologetic arguments- though there are several references to such defenses but instead to ask the reader to envision what the world would look like if the gospel were actually... Read more
