Known to fans of Bluegrass music for his long association with the "King of Bluegrass" Jimmy Martin, Williams has a powerful and distinctive tenor voice that has now gained fans worldwide for his soulful Gospel music. In addition to his fine mandolin work, Williams is also a superior songwriter. He wrote several of Martin's hit songs and has also penned songs that have been recorded by such major artists such Ray Charles, Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams Jr.
