You will want to understand the specific pH requirements of the fish you want to keep. Some fish (and other aquarium inhabitants) are hardier, while others can be quite sensitive to the water in which they live. Prepare your new water prior to water changes and allow it to reach room temperature. Lowers pH to desired number in fresh or saltwater. pH Decrease to drop pH down to a more acidic level. Rapid, large changes in either acidity or alkalinity of the water pH can be very harmful or fatal to the fish. Changes in pH readings of .2 or greater within a 24-hour period will induce physical stress. All changes need to be made slowly over a period of time.
