This is an excellent solution to the time exposure dilemma using a DSLR camera. On film SLR camera there's usually a place to screw in a cable shutter release with a lock to hold the shutter open for any desired period. DSLR cameras typically don't accommodate a mechanical cable release. Enter the electronic shutter release.
This particular model remote shutter release doesn't require batteries, since it uses the camera's battery as its power source. It's nicely finished and light weight. It's easy to stow in your camera bag.
To use it, all you have to do is plug one end of the supplied cable into the shutter trigger housing and the other into the camera. You're ready to go. Mount the camera on tripod or other sturdy surface, turn on the camera, hold down the button on the remote shutter release halfway to focus the camera, then push the button down all the way, and the camera fires. If you want to take a time exposure repeat the above and slide the button...
Works great.. at times I wish i would of bought the wireless and probably still will.. But this one for the price is excellent.. very excellent... helped me take photos of the super moon (when using a telephoto lens) to keep the camera steady.. worked great.. I also take a lot of baseball photos from long distance with this.. works great
Without reading the directions, I hooked it up to my camera and was quite happy with it until my camera seemed to take on a mind of its own, immediately shooting the moment I turned it on. However, it worked fine without the shutter release. When I finally read the directions, it was pointed out that the button can be locked down for time-lapse exposure, something I wasn't aware of. Once I unlocked it, my camera was fine, and we've been getting along beautifully ever since.
