Most of the other products I looked at had a door on the front with buttons or levers that ejected the drive. I didn't need anything like that, nor did I want it. I wanted a hot swap drive bay that would fit int he CD drive bay slot. i wanted the drive to stick out so I could simply grab it and unplug it, or plug it in without worrying about parts breaking. Simple is better in my mind. And so it has proven to be. This bay slid directly into my optical drive bay perfectly, the screws lined up perfectly. I plugged in the cables, and slid a 1TB drive in, turned the power on, and I had another 1TB of storage. SO VERY perfect for what I wanted.
I have six SATA hard drives, two SSD's and one hybrid drive I swap out t another computer with an external docking bay. This is a nice little bay that works far better than what it cost.
A bit of a tight fit in a Dell T420 server. The Dell screws are too long and can only be mounted at the bottom to avoid them entering into the drive bays. Once I figured that out then things went smoothly. The fan in the enclosure keeps the drives cool, and the activity LEDs are nice and bright. The blue lights are quite bright, so you won't want this somewhere you have to deal with it at night unless you also want to use it as a nightlight.
I had a few issues with FreeNAS reporting one drive had some CRC failures this week. The drive passed a long SMART test, so I replaced the SATA cable and moved the drive to an empty bay and the errors went away after a scrub of the array. Not sure the actual cause, but this enclosure is in the data path, so keeping an eye on it.
Internally, I keep a boot drive and a data drive for images and work. Being able to hot swap multiple SATA drives without the need for a tray is very convenient for moving data around and archiving -- I used to do this with IDEs in trays, but then it became expensive and cumbersome putting the drives into trays and taking them out. Much more efficient for me to just take the bare drive and plug it in. Of course one needs to

a. Set the BIOS to AHCI mode for SATA to hot swap
b. Be sure to software eject and let the drive spin down before opening the drive.
c. Be careful not to burn fingers when pulling a hot drive out of the rack
Seems to me the Western Digitals run hotter than the Seagate Barracudas

Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 are 0.8" in height -- shorter form factor than standard HD and still fit in the bays without problem. Shorter height means a little more clearance for air circulation to keep the drive cooler than the standard height... Read more
