This is a short treatise usually attributed to Ä€di-Åšaá¹…kara, the famous Indian philosopher of the 8th or 9th century ce. As he says in the first verse 'This work is composed for those ....... striving for liberation'. It lays out the entry qualifications, the nature of the Self and the path to be followed. Åšaá¹…kara re-defined the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta, negated erroneous theories and established philosophical schools which exist to this day to preserve this ancient tradition.
