Got this to replace cluster on 1985 Honda nighthawk CB450SC. Silly speedometer gear box keeps breaking after ~20k miles. Super easy to setup if you follow the directions. One thing that helped me was purchasing connectors/pins/crimper at Cycle Terminal (highly recommend), so the meter is completely plug and play with my bike.
Image includes my wiring diagram or you can follow below: Color codes as follows (from bike-pin#-to cluster): aqua/red-1-white, brown/white-2-brown, dark green-3-black, green/orange-4-purple, blue/red-5-gray, light blue-6-blue, dark blue-7-yellow, orange-8-orange, black-9-yellow/white, spliced red into active 12 V straight from battery (behind a 7.5 A fuse that protects other stuff too). Green=fuel gauge is unused.
When idle, 0.53 mA is drawn. When active, 20 mA is used at 10.9 V (I know, battery is a little low...).
Other picture shows gauge on lowest light setting in dimly lit garage. I did eventually change it to mph,...
I love this speedometer. I heard reviews of it not working correctly, especially with tachometer and some of the lights flashing if you don't set up the corresponding wire. I had no such issues. I mounted the tachometer for [poops] and giggles, and it worked perfectly. None of my lights flash but I only connected the main power wires, speedometer, and tachometer. Also, you CAN set the odometer, contrary to what other reviews you might read online say. Only issue is the instructions are confusing but I can help for main wiring setup:
Red wire connects to a permanent power source, maybe directly to the battery terminal (+) itself. Brown wire connects to any wire that only is powered when the key is turned to the on position. Black wire connects either to the battery terminal (-) or the frame of the bike. I first tightened a bolt over top the wire but the wire broke with vibration, so I scraped some paint off the frame and soldered the wire to it.
Pretty complicated setup. I spent hours with the koso manual, bike manual (2003 gsx600f), translating the colors between the two, and scouring online tutorials to get this bad boy wired up. Turn signal indicator works, brights good, speedometer accurate (after programing), but that's it. Tachometer can't get reading even after setting up all four different ways suggested, gas gauge only works with certain setups (not mine apparently), neutral indicator nix too.
Could I have set it up wrong? Always a possibility. But being a graduate of a USMC radio repair course and later selected as a radio operator for a six man recon team with deployment experience, I'm damn confident it my setup.
Bottom line: I'd pass this up and go with something specific for your bike.
