Additional Information

A smoked black tea from the province of Fujian in China. This tea is first withered over pine or cedar wood fires. The leaves are then rolled and fermented, before being dried in bamboo baskets which hang over a pinewood fire.Tradition has it that this tea was created accidentally during the Qing dynasty. Legend has it that villagers were unable to dry their tea harvest due to the presence of an Imperial Chinese army unit. When the soldiers left, a peasant lit a fire under the leaves to speed up the drying process, imparting the characteristically smoky flavor, and creating a whole new way to enjoy tea.

a bit mild for my taste- I continue to hunt out the smoky taste I love
I am sorry that this is not elegible for Amazon Prime. I bought mine from the Kusmi website, and the price was lower, even with the shipping.
Lapsang Souchong is not, so to speak, everybody's cup of tea. The freshly picked tea leaves are dried over a pone fire and pick up the smokey, resin flavor. The most extreme is the Taiwanese Tarry Lapsang Souchong, dried over burning pine resin. That one is hard to find.
Kusmi makes excellent teas. The company is French, though the family is Russian. While they are pricey, they are worth it. The quality is excellent.
This Lapsang Souchong is the kind of tea they brewed in the olden days, outside and in the smoke of the wood fire. Smooth, full taste, nice smoky notes. I can drink a pot of it by myself in a late morning or afternoon. Two pots when my wife is around and joins me. It is relaxing and soothing.

I've offered a cup to a cabinet maker and apprentice working in our kitchen. They rave and each day they are here, want more. It's that good.

We now have 4 favorite standbys:
1. Lipton Orange Jaipur (sold in France and I can't find here in the US)
2. Grey Duchess
3. Persian Tea ( Earl Grey, Darjeeling with crushed white cardamon)
4. this Kusmit Tea Lapsang Soughing No. 210

We've been drinking the this Lapsang Souchong almost exclusively this winter. When you open the tin you get the aroma of sweet smokiness, pleasant, not overwhelming. The single ingredient on the tin says: Smoked black China tea. I take mine with lemon and honey, please.
