very complete book about food animals, camelids and horses. useful for both students and practitioners, it provides complete and precious informations about all the problems you could be called to solve during your in-field service.
Extensive coverage of diseases (etiology, pathophys, diagnosing, treatment) for horses, cattle, sheep and goats. It has an appendix which is very useful for differentials. Smith is a well known and well respected authority in the practice of veterinary medicine. Keep it on your truck, in your office, close at hand for quick referral. There is hardly any discussion of lameness, so I would suggest a separate book such as Diagnosis and Management of Lameness in the Horse by Ross and Dyson. Combine this book with a good surgery book and you are good to go.
I bought the book for my girlfreind as a gift for her white coat ceremony. I didn't know it but it is the one she was wanting but Gona wait to get till she graduats in a year. Her 1st rotation was Large animal, she said the 1st day that this book was in the office and looked well used. So that tells me that it is a great reference for vets working in the field. If I need to buy another book for someone that is in the veternarian feild this is the one I would get hands down !! SHE LOVES IT!!!
