Developed by DUX at the beginning of the 50´s, this sharpener makes it possible to set the sharpness of the pencil point in three variations to support users in different disciplines who wanted to have the leads of their pencils at different sharpnesses.

Technical draftsman or architects require a very sharp point, while a designer or an artist may want a more blunt pencil for sketches. The variable sharpener allows for this using the knurl attached to the end of the sharpener.

The knurl moves into position with a very satisfying click when turned and depending on the setting, the pencil enters at different depths into the interior of the sharpener which in turn varies the cone.
