I'll make this concise and to the point:
Pros: * The neoprene slip-on rings (there are several of them and they go on in sections) protect the lens from bumps, short falls and also somewhat from weather. * The camouflage pattern MAY help you get shots of wary birds and other animals that you normally couldn't get without the lens cover. I say "may" because I have not experienced such an advantage yet. * It just makes the lens look kinda cool.
Cons * Let's face it -- it's just a half-dozen or so strips of neoprene, for lots o' bucks. As with a lot of photography accessories, it's just way, WAY overpriced for what it is. Probably costs less than a tenth of the retail price to manufacture. * There are clear plastic windows over the AF switch and other controls -- which makes them annoyingly tough to use, especially if you have gloves on. Some people cut holes in these plastic windows, sacrificing a measure of protection for...
First and foremost, I'll be fair and state that this seems like a nice piece of kit BUT what you're getting for almost $90 is 5 pieces of camouflage pattern neoprene fabric that is stitched into "bands" the widest being about 4" wide. All in all, you're getting about 10 inches by 9 inches of RealTree Max 4 HD patterned 1.5mm thick neoprene cloth cut into 5 strips and the stitched into hoops with a couple of clear PVC plastic "windows" that cover the lens controls. Just to put this into perspective, I searched for camouflage neoprene cloth which I found at a couple of places online being sold for $10 per 12 inch by 60 inch (1 foot x 5 foot) sheet. While this item is not a bad piece of kit (it is camouflaged and it does offer some protection from minor dings and scratches, although I'm not sure how well my $1,100 lens would fare from being accidentally dropped) but when you consider that you can buy enough materials to make at least 5 sets for one tenth...
Excellent cover! Looks great on my Sigma 150-500mm! I am not to sure how it will do with regards to bumps and dings during shoots as this material is very soft. It may do fine with regards to fine rain/mist/fog. It will not waterproof the lens in a rainstorm. Otherwise, it went on smoothly and the directions were easily to follow.
