There's a story to tell here. Unfortunately, this film doesn't really tell it in a coherent manner. Some narration would have helped pull it together; as it is, it's basically a series of clips. Interview, clip from a show, interview interview clip, etc. If there was any meaning to the ordering of the clips, I couldn't find it -- and really, that's not something the viewer shouldn't have to work for. Was that clip from a performance of the girl that was just interviewed, or the girl about to be interviewed? Both? Neither?

I think this documentary was great. A little disjointed at times, I thought the choice of clip/interview arrangement was sometimes strange and seemed to have no rhyme or reason. Other than that, I thought it was an intriguing and unique subject matter that was presented well. I loved that SJP was interviewed and love her for doing it, her stories of roller skating by brothels and partying at Studio 54 as a 10 year old were the highlights of the film for me. I like when a filmmaker takes a seemingly unrelatable subject matter and makes something really intriguing and thoughtful from it.
Excellent information about the pros and cons to young girls in show business in the 70s and 80s; realistic portrayal of how the experience is one of a kid, yet with "hard knock" lessons about how the competition on Broadway and the emotional conflict that comes from becoming a member of the Annie fame and family but what ups and downs may have a long term emotional affect on the sensitive psyches of ore adolescent female stars.
