I've been low carb for about 2 weeks now and have just gotten over the "carb flu" so I needed more inspiration for cooking. I wasn't sure about this book as I saw it in the shops and paged through and was like "meh" but one late night I decided to give it a try on kindle. I've made the Meatballs and Gravy, Pork fillet with Mushroom sauce and Chicken stuffed with feta and wrapped with bacon served with a cream sauce. All 3 dishes were a hit and best of all, they took max 45mins to cook! Bonus!
The microwave "bread" is great for those afternoons where you are hungry but lazy, and does the job just fine.
Interesting recipes include egg milk, nut free pancake, low carb bobotie, fish casserole with crispy bacon bits, nut free LCHF bread rolls, and cauliflower risotto.
The book is divided into the following sections:
Practical low carb for families;
Food for babies;
Lunch and dinner;
Sides and sauces;

Diet Doctor, a low carb blog, published one or two dessert recipes from this book, and they didn't call for a cup of Splenda or other artificial sweetener! I was sold. I ordered the book, which took far longer to arrive than I expected, and have been skimming through it. There is a fair amount of describing and selling the low-carb diet in the front of the book. She also gives tips on how to make food attractive to children. Recipes are mouthwatering. I seldom follow recipes exactly but use them for ideas, and I've picked up and used many ideas so far. I'm a strong believer in low carb eating and if you are interested in trying low-carb cooking this is a good book for you.

Added - in my enthusiasm I forgot a potential negative, most of the measurements are in metric. Most US measuring cups also have metric marks on them, and she does provide a conversion table, but still it's a bit awkward. Some ingredients are not easily available in the US such as creme fraiche... Read more
I got this book originally about 5 weeks ago and I read it so many times that it was permanently on my kitchen table. Then, my no-carb cat came and barfed on it... like soaked it in cat barf to the point where I a) threw the book in the trash, weeping softly when I did, and b) took the cat in for a Benadryl injection because he'd tried to eat a wasp. I digress. I bought a new one (book, not cat) that same night. I was totally distraught about losing the book (also about spending almost $200 getting my cat rehydrated and Benadryl-injected, but there I go digressing again). This is one of my favorite cookbooks, and I have many.

First of all, this book is a pleasure to look at. It has photos of every (or almost every, anyway) dish, along with some family photos, random artsy photos of hands typing, and random children playing outside. The paper is thick and glossy and feels nice, which to me is important.

The introduction discusses all sorts of aspects of the... Read more
