I use this bag as a waist pack only, and a good thing too. The shoulder strap is ridiculously long, even if you wanted to sling it across your body. The sliding pad on the strap can't center on your shoulder unless the strap is way too long. Who thought up this design?
I fit inside the main compartment a Canon 5D3, 24-105 lens, 600EX flash and either an off-camera cord or an ST-E3. Extra batteries, a memory card case, and a Demb reflector are in the external pockets. The side compression straps are also too long, and I'll probably trim those down. The bag and contents fit snugly against my lumbar region for a comfortable ride.
Overall a very good bag for a small kit with some oddly conceived straps.
UPDATE: After using this bag for a while longer, I streamlined it by cutting off the bottom tripod straps and the D rings for the useless shoulder strap. I'm never going to carry one of my tripods with this bag--it's for quick running and gunning or...
I did not want a huge camera bag. This is not going to be my carry-on on an airplane, it needs to fit INSIDE my carry-on. I also hate messenger bags because they drag on my shoulders, get in the way and have an annoying flap that covers the entrance. Finally, I wanted a convertible bag because it looks fine as a shoulder bag around town and I can wear it as a beltpack anywhere else, which looks dorky but is extremely convenient for camera gear. For a beltpack, this bag looks great. As a beltpack, I think it's more stylish than some sling bag and as a shoulder bag, it's easily better than a messenger bag. Getting to your gear is easy, just slide the bag to your front, open it up and you get a little pouch to hold things while you're switching lenses or whatever.
I was really wondering what I would be able to fit inside the bag and here's my verdict: in use, it is not the 4.5 inches wide on the interior that it advertises. I was able to fit my Nikon 70-300mm VR, my D5100 with...
I was looking for a bag that would hold some extra gear while I am using my camera on a shoulder strap. In its three bays it easily holds my Canon 75-300 zoom with hood turned around, and a flash, while leaving a free third bay for holding the lens off the camera when swapping. I originally purchased the Lowepro Inverse 200 AW bag before I bought this one, but found it bigger than I needed. This Photo Runner 100 would also work well to hold the camera with short lens attached, and an extra small lens or two, but not an extra teli-zoom. The small exterior pocket will hold a couple of my Canon batteries, or a battery attached to the A/C charger, but the larger pocket is really only practical for flat things, like a small notebook and some pens (useful) or a cable, or plastic bag for rain protection. It does not have the neat built-in rain hood that the bigger Inverse 200 AW (all weather) bag has, unfortunately. But, all-in-all, a great bag, and quickly becoming my favorite.
