I purchased this with the Nitecore IMR 18340 high drain batteries and this light is unbelievably bright. The moonlight mode is perfect for late night usage that will not ruin your natural night vision. The Turbo is overkill but nice to have. All the modes in between are great as well, nicely spaced and each level will have its place and use.
The light is tiny and easily EDC'd. The clip, while it won't seat perfectly, is very tight on the light and is quite sturdy. I love that I can reverse the clip so that I can clip it to my pant pocket lens side up and even clip it to a cap and use it as a headlamp (not sure if the heft weight will be an issue, but theoretically, the light can do this).
The copper gets quite hot in high and turbo modes. It can even get too hot to handle for some. This is a good thing though because I know that the heat is radiating away from the electronics.
The optics were perfectly aligned on both my e14 (purchased x2 of...
As it comes and using an IMR18350, this little thing gets HOT, fast, in turbo or even settings 5 or 6, using the 7 level mode. Runtime is short, typical of this type of mini high power lights. That is to be expected. I purchased the 18650 extension tube and IMR18650 high drain batteries for it. The tube is stout and adds enough mass to allow running at level 6 somewhat longer. It still heats up fast at turbo level but not quite as much. The IMR18650 also adds runtime and helps it run a little cooler. The copper and extra aluminum does well what it should, drain heat away from the lamps and electronics. That is a good thing! Though heavier and longer now I like it even better. This is a handy, potent, mini flood light. Build quality is excellent. The pocket clip works very well. Left as is or modified for longer use, a winner!
The copper heatsink looks beautiful. Of all the LED bulb types, the Nichia 219 is my favorite because of the high Color Rendition Index (CRI) which makes colors appear natural (not washed out with a blue tint, like most cheap LEDs). What I don't like about the Maker E14, however, is the confusing user interface. Here's a photo of the modes in the instruction sheet -- the UI is a complicated mess.
Overall I still like this E14 flashlight for the looks and for the quality of the light beam.
My favorite small pocket flashlights so far are the Eagtac D25 Ti series with Nichia 219.
