Good book for notes. The size is perfect. I write big so the smaller 3x5 or 5x7 were too small. The paper is a good weight and stops most bleeding. Ball point, gel and felt tip are fine but fountain pens gets through. It's very pliable which I like. There is a small space on each page for date, which I also like. There is no folder or pocket inside, which I prefer but not a deal breaker. I wish red and black made this size book.
The title kids, but after having used a myriad of different sized and designed (spiral bound, solid spine, etc.) notebooks I have settled on this particular size and model of book because, of me, it is the proper compromise between too small to be of use and too large to be portable enough. It's also quite a bit less expensive than the Moleskine books (which I have also used) and thanks to the wire binding can be laid out flat or folded in half. The paper it of a good heft, not so thin as to rip under the pressure of a heavy-handed notation yet not so thick as to disallow enough pages in one book. And the convenient date field in the upper right corner of each page makes me consistent in jotting that down as well. My notebooks typically last around 6 months of use - I take it with me to prospect and client sites and keep my old ones so I can refer to older notes if need be.
I'm still very much into handwriting; it's fast and convenient, and if the writing has any value, it can be quickly transcribed into a digital format. A small notebook often beats a laptop with ease. To make this idea work, the size of the notebook and the binding is important. Is it easy to turn the pages and are the covers rugged enough to protect the contents? If these were the criteria for this notebook, it would get five stars. The problem with Cambridge is the quality of the paper which is inconsistent. When I use the larger notebooks, the paper is good and smooth. On these smaller notebooks the paper quality is poor and when you write with ink, the paper sops it up like a blotter and it leaks through in spots on the backside of the page, which I dislike in a major way. So if you only like writing on one side of a page, They're OK. For everybody else. They're not. Too bad. Cambridge or Mead needs to have better quality control on their paper.
