Additional Information

An occasional glass of wine to relax. Margaritas on girls' night. A beer at the ball game. Motherhood doesn't mean you have to give it all up. If you've assumed that an occasional drink is incompatible with breastfeeding, you've assumed wrong. Milkscreen® is the best-selling home test to detect alcohol in breast milk with over 10 million tests sold. With Milkscreen, breastfeeding moms can enjoy an alcoholic beverage (beer, wine or hard alcohol) but then test their milk to ensure they are not passing unwanted alcohol on to baby. Milkscreen is accurate and easy to use with test results in only 2 minutes. Milkscreen is highly sensitive and detects even very low levels of alcohol. To use Milkscreen mom saturates the test pad with a few drops of breast milk. She then reads the test results at 2 minutes. Any color change on the test pad 2 minutes after saturation indicates that alcohol is present. No color change on test pads means that alcohol is not present. For over 10 years, Milkscreen has been the trusted brand for breastfeeding moms, lactation consultants and pediatricians. Milkscreen is made in the USA and patent pending.

Product worked fast, and seemed accurate based on the 4 bottles that I tested (two I suspected had alcohol, the other not). My husband accidently mixed a clean bottle with a potentially contaminated one, and the strips even picked up the alcohol in the mixed one. Gives a mother peace of mind. Seems a little pricey for what you get (I bet it costs pennies to make these), but I still like them. That's the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
Great to put your mind at ease after a few drinks as a secondary precaution . I have used these with both of my sons.
Like other reviewers have said, I wish there was an intensity color range to indicate the level of alcohol in the milk. No, I don't want to subject my child to even low amounts of alcohol, but I feel this would help mothers understand how quickly the body metabolizes the alcohol before it's safe to breastfeed. If a mother saw a "low" color indicator, she'd know it'd soon be safe to breast feed again vs. a "strong" color indicator which would tell her that she still had quite some time before she could safely feed her child. Otherwise, these strips are really pricey for what they are -- but in the end worth it for peace of mind and child safety.

Tip: cut each strip in half with scissors before use to double the number of test strips. They are small to begin with, but this works.
