Made it about 7 minutes in. After an intro by a man playing with cartoons, establishing history (which was fine) the first act is some Italian American heartthrob pretending to perform in front of a screaming audience ... but the performer is obviously lip synching and the audience is obviously some kind of stock footage from a separate event. 0 authenticity. The lead song is called "Kiddy 0", wherein some man in a suit wearing Kohl implores a potential lover - named Kiddy 0h (if that doesn't creep you the F out, watch the film), The singer has some weird stomping, clapping moments... none of them in synch with the rhythm of the song. So the leadoff song is a lip synched homage to pedophilia by a mascara wearing man with Tourrettes or 0 rhythm. After he left the stage there was some Abbot and Costello routine in front of a dancing girl with curves, obviously about her curves.... that was so profoundly weak I had to stop watching. Political correctness bothers me but when... Read more
One of my favorite rock and roll movies, not for the story, for the music. The only filmed appearance of Clyde McPhatter, although his music was used in several films. Laverne Baker is fabulous. Shaye Cogan only made 2 other films, both with Abbott and Costello, Comin' 'Round the Mountain (1951) and Jack and the Beanstalk (1952). She also appeared in several tv shows from 1949 -1951. She died in 2009 at age 85.
I love the old stuff from the 50's, but this was a mess. I think it was clips of old movies where the singers lip synced on American Bandstand and Alan Freed shows. Most of the songs were unknowns that were probably free to use with no royalties because I never heard of most of them and I know alot of them. I stopped watching after about half way through.
